Frequently asked questions

Is it safe for teenagers to use Whey Protein Concentrate?

For healthy teenagers who are active and eating a balanced diet, whey protein concentrate is generally considered safe when used appropriately. Protein powder is simply a concentrated form of dairy protein, not a steroid or performance enhancing substance. The key consideration for teens is total daily protein intake and ensuring it complements whole foods rather than replacing them.

Teenagers going through growth and sport often have higher protein needs, especially if they are training regularly. In these cases, a protein shake can be a convenient way to help meet requirements, particularly after sport or during busy school schedules. That said, it should sit alongside balanced meals that include carbohydrates, healthy fats, fibre and micronutrients, not act as the primary source of nutrition. It is always wise for parents to consult a healthcare professional if there are specific medical conditions or dietary concerns.

At Go Good, our whey protein is made from premium New Zealand grass fed whey and flavoured with real organic fruits and superfoods rather than artificial additives. Combined with third party batch testing for quality assurance, this gives parents confidence that the product is clean, transparent and thoughtfully made when considering it as part of a teen’s overall nutrition plan. Put simply when it comes to a clean label protein powder it does not get better than Go Good.

Does Whey Protein Concentrate keep you full longer than Isolate?

Whey protein concentrate helps keep you feeling fuller largely because it contains small amounts of naturally occurring fats and lactose alongside the protein. These additional components can slightly slow digestion compared to a more refined protein, which may contribute to a longer lasting feeling of satiety for some people. Protein itself is highly satiating, so both whey concentrate and whey isolate are effective, but the extra whole dairy elements in whey concentrate can make it feel a little more substantial.

That said, fullness is influenced by more than just the type of whey. Overall meal composition, fibre intake, total calories and how the protein is consumed all play a role. Blending whey concentrate into a smoothie with healthy fats, oats or chia seeds, for example, will naturally keep you fuller for longer than having protein on its own.

This was one of the biggest considerations when formulating Go Good. We focus on premium New Zealand grass fed whey and real organic fruits and superfoods to create a protein that blends seamlessly into real food. When your protein is not overly sweet or artificially flavoured, it is easier to build it into balanced meals that support stable energy and sustained fullness throughout the day.

Can I use Whey Protein Concentrate as a meal replacement?

Whey protein concentrate can be used as part of a light meal, but on its own it is not a complete meal replacement. While it provides high quality protein and essential amino acids that support muscle repair and recovery, it does not naturally contain the balanced mix of carbohydrates, healthy fats, fibre, vitamins and minerals that a full meal should provide.

If you are short on time, whey concentrate can absolutely form the foundation of a quick, balanced meal when combined with other whole foods. Blending it into a smoothie with oats, nut butter, seeds and fruit creates a more complete macronutrient profile that supports sustained energy and satiety. Protein helps keep you full, but fibre and healthy fats are what make that fullness last.

At Go Good, our whey proteins are made from premium New Zealand grass fed whey and flavoured with real organic fruits and superfoods, which makes them easy to incorporate into real food rather than relying on them as a standalone shake. The goal is not to replace meals long term, but to support busy days with clean, high quality nutrition that fits seamlessly into your lifestyle.

Is Whey Protein Concentrate or Isolate better for muscle gain?

Is Whey Protein Concentrate or Isolate better for muscle gain?

Both whey protein concentrate and isolate are highly effective for muscle gain because they are complete proteins that contain all essential amino acids, including leucine which plays a key role in stimulating muscle protein synthesis. The most important factor for building muscle is total daily protein intake and consistent resistance training, not whether the protein is concentrate or isolate.
Whey concentrate and isolate deliver very similar amino acid profiles per gram of protein. The primary difference lies in processing and macro composition rather than muscle building capability. If you are meeting your protein targets and training consistently, either form can support strength, recovery and lean muscle development effectively.
At Go Good, we prioritise premium New Zealand grass fed whey and flavour our proteins with real organic fruits and superfoods rather than artificial additives. Combined with third party batch testing for quality assurance, this ensures you are getting a clean, high quality protein source that supports muscle gain as part of a structured training and nutrition plan.

What is Whey Protein Concentrate and how is it made?

Whey protein concentrate is a high quality protein derived from milk during the cheese making process. When milk is separated into curds and liquid whey, the whey is collected and carefully filtered to remove most of the water while concentrating the protein. It is then gently spray dried into a powder. The final product typically contains around 70 to 80 percent protein, along with small amounts of naturally occurring lactose and fats, preserving more of the natural components of dairy.

The quality of whey protein concentrate starts with the milk itself. At Go Good, we use premium New Zealand grass fed whey sourced from pasture raised cows, which supports a cleaner, more nutrient rich starting point. The low temperature filtration process is designed to maintain the integrity of the amino acids that support muscle repair and recovery, rather than over processing the protein. As with any supplement, sourcing and handling make a meaningful difference to the end result.

“Normal” whey protein, often referring to whey protein concentrate, is a great option for those who want a more whole food profile. Because it undergoes less filtration than whey isolate, it naturally retains small amounts of lactose, healthy fats and bioactive dairy compounds. For many people, this can mean a creamier texture, a more rounded taste, and a product that feels closer to its natural dairy origin rather than being highly refined.

How much lactose is typically in Whey Protein Concentrate?

An 80 percent whey protein concentrate like Go Good typically contains around 4 to 6 grams of lactose per 100 grams of powder. Because 80 grams out of every 100 grams is protein, the remaining 20 grams is made up of small amounts of lactose, fats, minerals and moisture.

In practical terms, this means a 30 gram serve of an 80 percent whey concentrate would usually contain roughly 1 to 1.5 grams of lactose. For most people who tolerate dairy well, this is considered a relatively modest amount. Sensitivity varies from person to person, so individual tolerance should always guide intake.
